Gregg Jackson was born in Salisbury, Maryland and began his music career at a very young age of six; he performed in gospel choirs, dance troupes and shows, studying under the direction of the famous Boston pop artist Anna Maria Santorrelli.
Gregg Jackson has brought the joy and intensity of the Motown/R&B nightclub experience to packed dance floors all over the United States. He has performed lead and background vocals with many well-known artists such as James Brown: Ike & Tina Turner; Herb Reed & The Platters; The Coasters; The Drifters; Otis Redding & The Trammps. Otis Redding was a huge influence on Gregg, both as a singer and a role model; they spent time together shortly before Otis' tragic death. The vocal comparisons are evident and when Gregg sings he feels Otis' spirit.
In 1982, Gregg released his first album entitled “One for the Road” which was produced by Kevin Falvey for KYP Productions. It was recorded at Normandy Sound Inc, Warren, Rhode Island. The LP was largely sold at the night club where Gregg Jackson and the Strike Force Band played; which will explain why most copies are autographed. The LP is highly sought after amongst record collectors, commanding a high price tag. The title track has become Gregg's signature song.
In 2014 Gregg released a CD album entitled 'The Other Side Of Me' which contained nine very well produced and excellently sung songs including an updated version of 'One For The Road', a masterful example of how to approach an accepted classic without ruining it's vibe. Other highlights included 'Sparkle' a stunning 80's influenced stepper, plus 'Sunny Day' and 'Movin' On'.
A 45 release of 'One For The Road' by U.K independent record label IZIPHO SOUL in 2016 heightened interest in the song and led to a U.K. visit where Gregg performed at the Soul Essence weekender. Naturally, he went down a storm with the crowd mesmerizing them with his supremely soulful vocals.
Gregg is a very in-demand performer in his home state of Florida, regularly singing seven nights a week! Jack Nicklaus is his first choice entertainer when The Golden Bear hosts parties at his mansion. The Florida locals and loyal fans describe Gregg as the nearest thing you will get to a real soul singer from the classic era! Always immaculately turned out, the man has more of his of trademark sparkly jackets than Imelda Marcos has shoes!
'One For The Road' still had a twist in the tale: Gregg's love of Philly Soul inspired IZIPHO SOUL into securing the services of U.K music producer and mix maestro, Nigel Lowis. Imagine the elation when Nigel conjured up not one, but two distinct and incredible versions - an Uptown & Downton mix! The 45 will be released on Gregg's birthday which is on 28th February 2019. The record is dedicated to the loving memory of Gregg’s wife, Amina who sadly passed away last year.
Gregg Jackson: not so much ‘One For The Road’ but ‘One More For The Road!’
